Christmas and New Year's Day services

THIS year both Christmas and New Year's Day fall on a Sunday (amazing coincidence, that!) and we will have ONE service at 10:00 a.m. both December 25th and January 1st.

December 25th will be Rite II and the music will be carols from the hymnal.

January 1st will be Rite I and the music will be Jim & Yvonne.

Christmas Eve church service is a midnight mass, starting 10:30 p.m., so that we end by celebrating the birth of our Lord. Please do join us for any or all of these services - we're a small and friendly parish.

Happy Christmas!

Temple Beth Emet: High Holy Days

Jewish year 5772 begins on Thursday, September 29th - and, since Thursday begins at sundown Wednesday, that means Erev Rosh Hashanah services for Temple Beth Emet will be held at St Jude's Wednesday night at 8 p.m. and Rosh Hashanah services Thursday morning at 10 a.m.

St Jude's parishioners are encouraged to come and assist in the flashlight brigade on Wednesday night, walking our Jewish brothers and sisters to and from their cars, as we borrow the use of additional local parking lots.

Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, is October 8th this year, so Friday night, October 7th, is Erev Yom Kippur at 8 p.m. and Yom Kippur services at 10 a.m. Saturday (Yom Kippur with shofar and digeridoo).

We will also provide a flashlight brigade on Friday evening for Yom Kippur.

Lent

Wednesday last marked the beginning of Lent and Father Chuck marked many of us with ashes. Lent is a good time for "internal sifting," as it were. It's also a good time to re-focus our prayers and right now, with this massive earthquake in Japan (8.9 on the Richter scale - beyond my ability to grasp) and our own David V.'s surgery, I'm praying with a special focus on Japan and on David & Debbie. Hope to see you at St. Jude's this Sunday....

Color band...?

Jeremy mentioned to me that he thought it would be neat if there was some indication of *where* we are in the liturgical year and I thought, "cool!" So I've put up a side bar with some links that I found kind of interesting and relevant and it shows the color of the church season.

Who knows if it will remain up?! Take a look and let me know what you think--

Annual Meeting this Sunday, February 13, 2011

Yes, brother & sister Judeans, the Annual Meeting (and potluck!) is this Sunday and, to simplify life for everybody, including our priest, we will have ONE service at 9:30 a.m.

This means the early service parishioners may sleep in a bit (or perhaps prepare something really fancy) and the late service parishioners get to do their impersonation of Alice's White Rabbit.

But, despite the change to our standard schedule, we are always blessed to be together as a whole parish and the Annual Meeting is more fun than formal.

See you in church and then the Parish Hall!

Welcome to St Jude's Blog!

Now that we have a website, we also have a calendar and this blog.

It remains to be seen just how we'll use all this good web tech but, hey, we thought you'd like to know!
