The High Holy Days
In Jewish life, the beginning of the year is Rosh Hashanah and, since the Jewish calendar is lunar rather than the rigid Gregorian calendar that we commonly use, it means the date floats... this year, Rosh Hashanah will begin at sunset on Sunday, September 16, and continue through sunset on September 17th.
St Jude's is once again delighted and honored to welcome our friends, the congregation of Temple Beth Emet to celebrate the High Holy Days at our church. The Sunday evening Rosh Hashanah service will begin at 8:00 p.m. and the daytime service will begin Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. with the children's service beginning at 10:30 a.m. Congregants are reminded to bring their shofars... which means David Van Ausdal will likely bring his didgeridoo!
Chabad.org has a pretty extensive website which explains Rosh Hashanah in great detail, for those of you interested in what our friends at Temple Beth Emet believe, commemorate, and celebrate at the High Holy Days. Ten days later they will be at St Jude's for Yom Kippur; more on that most significant holiday in the next blog post; Temple Beth Emet's schedule can be found here.
St Jude's parishioner's are invited to come early and bring a flashlight to help direct parking (we will be using additional parking lots once our own lot fills up) and accompany our friends from the lot to the sanctuary.
Oh, and the Vestry meets Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m.

Single Service Continues Through AUGUST!
Due to the popularity of the single service at 9:00 a.m. and our enjoyment of being together as a whole congregation, we've decided to continue through August. This is also a good plan for air-conditioning purposes!
Worship music will begin about 8:40 a.m. and continue to 8:55 and then break for silence before the service formally starts at 9:00, or pretty close.
And don't forget, WEDNESDAY night July 25th at 7:30 p.m., Dr. Suuqiina is teaching from the Hebrew on the musical tones in the names of God - it will be fascinating! Do come join us.

Synchronize Your Watches! UPDATE
For five weeks this summer, starting June 24th, we will have only one service Sunday mornings, starting at 9:00 a.m.
We will have Morning Prayer and Eucharist from the Reserve Sacrament; worship music will begin around 8:45 a.m.
The one exception will be July 8th - we have a single service at 9:00 a.m. but it will be Rite I with Fr Chuck.
So let's synchronize our timepieces (watch, alarm clock, smart phone, computer, etc.) and either come a bit later than usual or a bit earlier than usual-- see you in Burbank!
